THIRTY members of Fitness Zone’s All Women Club, who had taken part in a 28-day challenge to test their limits and take their fitness to the next level, learnt the importance of strength and functional training in helping them to build a more balanced fitness regime.

The four-week fitness activity comprised posture and breathing in the first week, technique and flexibility in the second week, isolation versus compound in the third, and circuit training and HIIT (with outdoor activities) in the fourth.

One of its participants was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Ameenah Bushral Bulqiah binti Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.

The challenge concluded yesterday with a certificate presentation ceremony officiated by the Managing Director of Fitness Zone, Wu Chun.

In an interview, he said, “It is important for ladies to learn about strength and functional training besides cardio training.

“There is a perception that strength training will build a bulky body for ladies, but this is not true because male and female hormones are different.”

The advantage of having strength training, according to Wu Chun, is that the body will be slow to gain weight when one stops going to the gym for two or three weeks.

“We aim to do more of these activities in the future… Not only to create programmes for women and promote strength training in women, but also to create a community that celebrates women,” he added.

The winner of the challenge was Mandy Lui, followed by Liew Chiew Fah and Ng Yuen Leng in second and third place respectively.

Full-time housewife Mandy Lui lost a good amount of body fat in just four weeks, and she received her certificate and wellness goods yesterday as well as a one-month membership.

The criteria for the challenge were 30 per cent score on attendance, 35 per cent on body fat loss and the other 35 per cent on muscle gain.

In an interview, the first place winner expressed, “I was quite surprised that I won because all the participants were really working hard in the challenge.”

She also revealed that the first week was really tough, as she was not used to the new training.

Fitness Zone chooses award-winning alkaline water dispenser

22 Aug

STARTING this month, Fitness Zone members can get to enjoy antioxidant-rich, alkaline drinking water, courtesy of DescGroup Enterprise, the sole distributor for AOX Natural in Brunei Darussalam.

AOX Natural was founded with the vision of helping many improve their health, and was the first drinking water company to receive the Asia-Pacific Super Health Brand award in 2012, said a press release.

The dispenser ionises drinking water through a generous infusion of hydrogen, oxygen and negatively charged ions.

This gives the water millions of powerful antioxidants, which are highly effective in preventing free radical damage.

Antioxidants work like Vitamin C, in strengthening the immunity system, promoting anti-ageing as well as the feeling of freshness and youth.

AOX mineralises water with health-sustaining minerals, such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium and silica to promote healthy cells, bones, joints, organs and skin.

AOX also removes dust, sand, rust and other forms of sediments in the water.

In the process, it removes harmful chemicals and cancer-causing substances such as chlorine, THM, pesticides and carcinogens.

It also eradicates odour from the water.

In a press statement, Wu Chun, the Managing Director of Fitness Zone, said, “I strongly feel there is a huge synergy between Fitness Zone and AOX, as we share the same vision, which is to provide a healthier lifestyle to our members.”

According to Sam, the Sales Manager of AOX Natural, drinking alkaline water helps to slow the aging process, boost metabolism and improve blood circulation.

“AOX also reduces water molecules to smaller water clusters, which means that your body is able to hydrate more effectively than by drinking ordinary water,” he said.

“Any protein drinks made with AOX become immediately more effective, simply because more of it is getting into your cells.”

Matching to the theme of this year’s World Autism Awareness Day, ‘Light it up Blue’, members of Fitness Zone and the public were encouraged to turn up in blue-toned attire.

THE second edition of the all-women charity fun run, She Runs 2016, organised by Fitness Zone, continues to receive international acclaim with famed stars Ella, Blackie and Nichkhun of Korean boy band 2PM becoming the latest glitterati to endorse the event.

The celebrities expressed their support for the charity run during the recent ‘Beat the Champions’ reality TV show in China, said Wu Chun, the Brunei-born international super star, who is also the Managing Director of Fitness Zone.

“One of the best things in life is to get the support from your friends when you needed it most. She Runs is a very meaningful event and when I shared this project with my celebrity friends, they were upbeat and wanted to be part of it.”

Wu Chun was invited to Shanghai to join the final episode of the reality show alongside Ella, Blackie, Nichkhun and NBA superstar guest, Tracy McGrady.

“I am so happy that She Runs is receiving such a positive response from the public after last year’s success and our team is full of passion to make the event more meaningful and fun this year for all the participants and our proud sponsors,” Wu Chun said.

On the opportunity to play basketball with Tracy Mcgrady, Wu Chun said he has a special feeling for basketball.

“Basketball has already been an important part of my life. Many parents don’t realise the importance of getting their children involve in sports. Sports help children develop physical skills, get healthy, be a team player, learn to play fair, and improve self-esteem.

“I had the chance to work with the NBA superstar, Tracy McGrady in the TV reality show.

“His success is all about hard work which is why his story is full of inspirations and he is a great role model for his fans.

“It’s also one of my dreams to inspire our children to live an active lifestyle and I hope all parents will start becoming a good role model for their children.

“It’s not easy, but we know it’s worth our time and effort.”

Set to take place on May 15, 2016, She Runs this year aims to raise funds for two non-government organisations – the Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) which supports children diagnosed with cancer and their families while they undergo treatment, and the Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD).

Split into two categories of 3.7km and 5km, She Runs 2016 is limited to 1,500 participants.

Online registration at sheruns.com.bn has commenced on March 23 and will conclude on April 10.
