Roger Fletcher commented, “BMW is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2016 She Runs, a charity fun run for ladies organised by Fitness Zone Women’s Club.

“QAF Auto’s involvement in the charity run echoes the organisation’s dedication to support charitable organisations in Brunei, and for this event they are YASKA and SOBD and all the proceeds of the event will go to them. We hope that we could do it more often,” he added.

Meanwhile, both YASKA and SOBD have expressed their gratitude for choosing them as the recipients of the money raised in the event.

“We are grateful and it makes us feel that we are not alone in the fight against cancer,” said Tsara’ Nawwarah.

Haji Mahrub added, “We are so grateful that SOBD has been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of this year’s event. With this assistance, SOBD will be able to organise events for the special athletes and enable them to compete at regional Special Olympics championships.”

Split into two categories of 3.7km and 5km, She Runs is limited to 1,500 participants. Online registration at sheruns.com.bn has commenced on March 23 and will conclude on April 10.

AFTER raising $55,000 for Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) last year, Fitness Zone’s She Runs 2016 is looking to build on this success with the support of Brunei Press as the official and exclusive print media partner, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday at the Fitness Zone branch in Serusop.

With the aim of gathering Brunei’s women from all walks of life to raise awareness on female empowerment and also to give back to the society, the second all-female charity run, with the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam, is expected to take place on May 15. Online registration at sheruns.com.bn has commenced and will conclude on April 10, while the number of participants is limited to only 1,500 individuals.

In addition to YASKA, a non-government organisation that supports children diagnosed with cancer and their families while they undergo treatment, She Runs will also raise funds for the Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD). “With advice from YASKA, we felt that it is timely to raise funds for SOBD, a non-profit, non-government organisation in need of funding,” commented Wu Chun during a press conference after the signing.

The international superstar also expressed his gratitude to Brunei Press for agreeing to work hand-in-hand to support the advocacy of empowering women.

“I am thankful that Brunei Press has come onboard and we hope that through the newspaper, we can disseminate information to the public,” he said.

Reggie See, the General Manager of Brunei Press, added: “Following the success of the inaugural She Runs event last year, whereby a total of $55,000 was raised for YASKA, we felt that the 2016 She Runs can grow to be a bigger event this year.

“In line with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, we have been supporting various charity events in the country. Lately, there has been much emphasis on the importance of health and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)… Therefore, through this event, we hope to assist in endorsing and educating on the importance of health, fitness and sports for a healthier lifestyle.”

Also present yesterday were Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Mariam binti Pengiran Haji Matarsat, Vice President of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam; Hazizah Osman, the Deputy General Manager of Brunei Press; Suzie Houng, Senior Manager – Finance and Operations of Brunei Press; and Del Alfaro, the General Manager of Fitness Zone.

Second all-women’s charity race set for May 15

24 Mar

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

LADIES, mark your calendar for May 15 and ready your running shoes as Fitness Zone is organising its all-female charity run for the second time.

There are two categories under ‘She Runs’ – 3.7km run at $30 and 5km run at $35. The run is limited to 1,500 participants and will be held at Fitness Zone’s Women’s Health Club in Serusop.

Online registration for the run on its website, , starts today and will end on April 10. Meanwhile, all payments will commence from March 25 to April 18 at Fitness Zone Kiulap branch, from 12pm to 7pm, with exception of the temporary closure from 12noon to 2pm on Fridays to observe Friday prayers. Race kit collection, on the other hand, is tentatively scheduled for May 10 to 13.

Following the huge success of its first event last year, Shelly Busque, Events and Executive assistant of Wu Chun, the managing director of Fitness Zone, said that ‘She Runs’ is a charity run that aims at more than just celebrating women. “Last year, we (also) organised it in the month of May to coincide with the International Mother’s Day, but (this year) we are aiming to have a broader scope in celebrating our women, especially here in Brunei,” she stated.

She added, “Women, in nature, were raised as natural caregivers and have nurturing patience. Millennial women, in my opinion, can stand on their own, and are resilient creatures especially in the face of great adversity, and when united as one, can reach a common goal!

“And (therefore) this event is for us to encourage the public that we all have the power to change the world, through giving back to the society through charity works. Our beneficiaries this year would be two non-government organisations, which are the Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) and Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD).” Based on She Run’s website, more than $55,000 in proceeds was received from the event last year.

Meanwhile, Wu Chun said, “Our team dedicate ‘She Runs 2016’ to empower women from different walks of life to strive and turn into better individuals, inside out. Join us for a life-turning event that is filled with inspiration, excitement and joy. Let’s join hand in hand and do our part in making a difference!”

Fitness Zone will also announce the list of event sponsors in the coming days
