“BE INSPIRED, chase after your dreams and always remember to not let your parents down when you pursue anything in life.”

Those were some words of wisdom shared by the locally bred international artiste, Wu Chun, during one of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science’s (FASS) eminent speakers series, ‘A Date with Wu Chun – Living a Life of Endless Possibilities’.

The interactive talk was held yesterday at the ILIA building, which was facilitated by Low Kok Wai, lecturer for Drama and Theatre Studies in Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Present at the event were Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, Dean of FASS, and UBD undergraduates.

It was Wu Chun’s first time attending an interactive session with students and he hoped to continue to attend similar events to inspire and to encourage the younger generation to work hard and to give advice to the students, not only regarding the entertainment industry but also in business ventures as well as in life.

During the talk, Wu Chun recalled his first stint in acting whereby he was scolded by the director of a Taiwanese drama. “I was discovered by a producer in Taiwan when I was on vacation. With no background in acting and my command of Taiwanese Mandarin not up to par, I was given a lead role in a drama. After a few takes, the director scolded me by saying ‘Why don’t you go back to Brunei’ in front of hundreds of people which was hurtful but I managed to pick myself up and improve myself.”

At the end of shooting the drama, the director praised him for being the hardest working student he had known.

Wu Chun also shared his experience in various business ventures and talked about a book that he wrote, ‘Ignite Courage’, which has become one of the best-selling books in Taiwan.
