KFC feast on GHK Motors for fifth straight win

18 May

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

WU CHUN notched 16 points in his debut for KFC in a 117-36 demolition of GHK Motors in Group C of the Inter-Company NBT Basketball tournament last night at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

In what was their fifth straight victory, three other players notched double figures for KFC with Darren Chai leading the way with 24 points.

Goh De No added 16 points while Geve Leones contributed 13 points in the triumph.

It was evident where the match was heading after KFC opened up a 30-11 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

The tournament favourites have won all their games by an average winning margin of 82 points.

Their largest victory came in their opener where they thrashed CCS Comservice 132-29 on May 3.

KFC head coach Raul Dimaano explained that they couldn’t afford to take their foot off the pedal and play complacent basketball.

“I told the guys to continue playing hard, especially on defence. We need to be prepared for stronger teams in the competition,” said Dimaano in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.

“I feel confident with the way the team is playing right now and we are ready for the next round. But I believe that there is still room for improvement at the defensive end,” he added.

The tournament continues today with three more matches on the schedule starting at 6.30pm.

In the first game, Borneo United will take on Ishajaya Technology in Group A followed by a matchup between D’Sunlit against GHK Motors in Group C.

The last match will see DST Communications face JPMC in Group A.

THERE is still time to register for The Run 2014 as the deadline for registration has been extended to May 12.

This was mentioned by the chairman for the third installation of Pusat Ehsan’s charity run, Dato Paduka Hj Alimin Hj Wahab, who is also the chairman of the special needs centre, during a press conference yesterday at Fitness Zone in Kiulap.

Registration forms must be handed in not later than 12pm on Monday at the following venues: The Secretariat Office in Kg Madewa, Youth Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan and Pusat Ehsan’s branch in Kuala Belait. The same time applies for the online registration deadline.

Collection of running kits was also announced. From June 3 to June 6, participants can head to the first floor, main entrance of the Indoor Stadium in Berakas and collect their kits anytime in between 8.30am to 8.30pm with the exception of Friday as it is split into two shifts: 8.30am to 12pm and 2pm to 8.30pm.

“Running kits for special needs participants will be distributed during their registration on race day, June 8,” added Dato Hj Alimin.

The chairman then mentioned that the venue for the race day, the Indoor Stadium, will only be open one hour after the Subuh prayer. Muslim participants intending to perform their prayers out of their homes may do so at the following mosques — Pulaie Mosque, Sufri Bolkiah Mosque in Berakas, As-Sallehin Mosque and Mohammad Bolkiah Mosque to name a few.

Meanwhile, Fitness Zone is still the official health partner of the charity race.

“We welcome all participants of The Run 2014 to avail them to the three days free pass to experience Fitness Zone’s facilities and group exercises classes,” said Rachael Lee, fitness manager of Fitness Zone, at the press conference.

She added that this can be done by presenting their participation bib or receipt to any branch’s reception counter.

Seven lucky participants will also stand a chance to walk away with either two weeks pass for two person or one month membership to the fitness club sponsored by its Managing Director, Wu Chun.

The charity run is part of Pusat Ehsan’s annual project aimed at encouraging the development of a positive mindset among active youth and families as well as to promote a healthy community through a good cause.

MORE than 200 participants are expected to take part in the ‘Zumbathon’, a charity for Pusat Ehsan to be held on June 1 at Fitness Zone, Kiulap, from 3pm to 5pm.

The Zumbathon is a first-time charity event held by FC PHOSPHOR foundation, a football club under Tengku Syed Herdiman, Managing Director of the club. The event is supported by Fitness Zone.

Speaking at a press conference at Fitness Zone in Kiulap yesterday, Tengku Syed Herdiman said the event which promotes Zumba Fitness for healthy lifestyle, is open to the public to help raise funds for Pusat Ehsan. The registration fee is $15 per person.

In addition to that, it is also to draw public attention and encourage charity work by donors and volunteers through positive media exposure, while also establishing good relationship between Pusat Ehsan and the organisations involved.

Present at the press conference was Pengiran Datin Hjh Noraini binti PDNLDR Pengiran Haji Abd Momin, Executive Operation/Trustee of Pusat Ehsan; and Rachael Lee, Fitness Manager of Fitness Zone.

According to Rachael Lee, Fitness Zone has been supportive of charity events in the country especially those involving Pusat Ehsan, such as the upcoming charity run. She also highlighted that starting yesterday, registration is open at the reception counter at both Fitness Zone Kiulap and Serusop branches, from 5pm to 8pm.

She also said that all proceeds from the event will be contributed to Pusat Ehsan. There will be five fitness instructors from Fitness Zone to conduct the fitness and exercise session. For those who wish to donate for the event can do so at the drop-in donation box to be placed at both Fitness Zone Kiulap and Serusop branches.

Meanwhile, Pengiran Datin Hjh Noraini expressed her gratitude and appreciation towards the effort made by FC PHOSPHOR and Fitness Zone in organising the event.

“Our overhead is now more than $40,000 to be paid to the staff at the centre and every help that we receive is really appreciated,” she expressed.

In addition to the charity run on June 8, Fitness Zone will also be organising a Zumba Workshop for Advance and Kids, which is set to be held in either September or October. Members of the public are welcome to join in the event, said Wu Chun.

In conjunction with the upcoming Mother’s Day celebration, Fitness Zone is giving out free memberships for mothers on May, 9, 10 and 11.

FITNESS Zone, one of Brunei’s leading fitness centres, yesterday launched its 2014 Les Mills programmes with new moves for its loyal exercise class members.

Pre-booking can still be made at $3 per entry to secure slots, as there are limited numbers to each programme.

The programmes to be launched at the Kiulap Fitness Zone Multipurpose Hall will include BodyAttack, BodyPump, BodyCombat, BodyJam, SH’BAM, BodyBalance, RPM, CXWORX and the two latest addition to the health club – Grit Cardio and Grit Strength.

YAM Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min is one of the six new licenced body attack instructors that were introduced during the launching ceremony.

“The launching of Les Mills in Fitness Zone happens every quarter of the year. All of my certified and licensed instructors are excited and it promises to be one of the most anticipated events held in Fitness Zone. I am extending my invitation to all fitness enthusiasts and national athletes to give our group exercise programmes a try. The most amazing part of Les Mills group exercise programmes is seeing many different faces coming together at one venue to not just burn hundreds of calories together, but also enjoy the music and movements choreographed together,” said Rachael Lee, Fitness Manager of Fitness Zone, who will also be taking lead on stage for Grit Cardio and Grit Strength (High Intensity Interval Training programme).
