6 fitness enthusiasts making up of current Fitness Zone group class instructors and members has gathered for their 3 days intensive training to get themselves licensed to teach one of Les Mills popular high intensity fitness class – Body Attack.

Les Mills BODYATTACK® is the sports-inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high-energy interval training class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilisation exercises can help you burn 850 calories in just 45 minutes.

BodyAttack’s Master trainer from Les Mills New Zealand – Teoh, who will be guiding these 6 candidates through their grueling training weekend is excited to help Fitness Zone to groom and educate more of the club’s instructors and members to become a better Les Mills Instructor. He is also hoping that more of the locals in the country will soon recognize Les Mills’s fitness magic, thus pursuing a career to instruct its programs.

Les Mills currently provides 12 different fitness class programs, of which Fitness Zone is offering 9 of them. Thus managing director, Wu chun believes and still believes strongly that his 11 yrs old fitness establishment is the only health club in the country to offer the widest variety of group exercise classes to the public. Wu Chun Shared, “It is our duty to help fuel fitness addiction. Clubs globally are looking for fitness programs that members will actually stick to. Research shows that members need motivation and community, especially those new to exercise. TO CELEBRATE Fitness Zone’s 11th anniversary and also International Women Day, Fitness Zone yesterday organised a blood donation drive that attracted a total of 63 donors including Wu Chun.

Wu Chun, founder of Fitness Zone, said in an interview, “We organise blood donation campaign for two to three times a year, and this is the first for this year.

“There’s nothing to be afraid of especially when it helps people who are in need of blood and our decision will be live-saving. This is my fifth time participating in blood donation. I also understand that donating blood brings health benefits. Every time you release blood, you also lower your iron levels, which according to CNN, can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.”

According to the Miller-Keystone Blood Centre (a non-profit organisation that supplies blood products across the US), he said, “Regular blood donation can also reduce the risk of cancer in the liver, lungs, throat, colon, and stomach. By being a regular donor, you help your body replenish itself and this will allow your body to work more efficiently.”

To encourage people to donate blood, Fitness Zone is giving out a two-week membership pass to all donors. The next blood donation event is scheduled to be held in October.

He also highlighted, “One of Fitness Zone’s mission is to make Bruneian women stronger as 80 per cent of our members are females. We have about 400 women members who have stayed with us since 11 years ago and we have about 7,000 women in Brunei who have joined us since 2003.

“Furthermore the reason why we have Live Band is because I believe that music can ease the tension for those who are scared and I actually encouraged a number of first timers to donate today.

“Few years back, I was afraid too, but there is always a first time, and that is what heroes are made of … overcoming fears to do something meaningful and I am glad that we have so many heroes today,” he added.

Wu Chun also took the opportunity to thank Mr Baker and Fitness Zone Live Band for their support and also the RIPAS Hospital Blood bank team.

THE “BIBD Challenge” that was launched on February 15 has come to a successful end and was feted with a closing ceremony held at Fitness Zone Branch in Kg Kiulap, officiated by Hj Minorhadi Hj Mirhassan, Head of Institutional Banking cum Head of BIBD Sports & Recreation Club (BIBD SRC).

The “BIBD Challenge” organised for the first time by BIBD SRC, aimed to promote healthy lifestyle through the consumption of healthy and nutritious food, as well as carrying out regular phyiscal exercise.

The event was jointly organised by Jasra Harrison, who prepared the dietary programme and supported by Fitness Zone, in charge of workout activities.

The challenge which ran for two weeks attracted a total of 60 BIBD employees, grouped into teams of three members with the objective to provide moral support to their members.

Each team was given a strict dietary programme for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which included Fitness Cereal as the main staple food for the participants.

This is in addition to an exercise regime to be carried, all of which aimed to help them achieve the targeted weight loss. At the end of “The Challenge”, participants were expected to lose between 2kg to 4kg.

The highlight of the closing ceremony was the final weigh-in for allparticipants, which was then followed by a presentation of prizes to the team who had successfully lost the most weight.

The members of the winning team each received prizes which included a return ticket to Singapore and a Nestle food hamper both sponsored by Jasra Harrison, as well as a cash prize worth $200 sponsored by BIBD SRC.

Meanwhile, first and second runners-up team members were each presented with a Nestle food hamper and cash prizes worth $150 and $100 respectively.

Commenting on this activity, Hj Minorhadi, strongly supports the efforts initiated by BIBD SRC which is also the first for BIBD, as it is geared towards promoting a healthy lifestyle and developing self discipline.

He praised the participants for stepping forward, daring to rise to and endure “The Challenge”.

“The Challenge” initiative also received positive reviews from the participants, where they felt a sense of satisfaction and achievement in being able to complete the two-week challenge, despite initial difficulty in trying to stick to the diet and exercise programme.

DST officially launched their healthy lifestyle programme at their headquarters at Tungku Link yesterday.

The programme is conducted in collaboration with the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) and Fitness Zone.

Approximately 21 employees from DST joined in the weight management programme which will be held for a duration of 10 weeks assisted by professional stakeholders such as doctors, dieticians, sports scientists, psychologists and physical activity sessions.

Hj Suhaimi Hj Hussain, chief executive officer of DST advised the participants to think of being unhealthy as a good motivational tool and deciding factor for staying in the programme.

He added that success of the organisation is dependent on employees’ positive well-being.

Participants were led through the various exercise routines, weekly dietary challenges, healthy cooking demos and group counselling which they would encounter during the programme.

Physical activities will be conducted by Fitness Zone instructors at HPC and DST sports hall in order to increase the participants’ energy, as well as reduce their risk of stress or depression.

Meanwhile, group counselling will also be held every Wednesday coupled with blood tests and other examinations.

A food and exercise diary was also handed to every participant in order for them to record what has been eaten and exercises they have done throughout the week.

The objective of the programme for the participants is to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. Participants will be expected to practice a healthy lifestyle such as eating a healthy diet, engage in regular physical activities and learn how to manage stress.

The participants are expected to lose around 10 per cent of their body weight at the end of the programme.

IN CONJUNCTION with Fitness Zone’s 11th anniversary, Brunei’s number one health club is holding a blood donation drive and a dance marathon on March 8 and 19 respectively at its Kiulap Branch.

On March 8, the health club will host the blood donation drive at its Kiulap branch from 2pm to 4pm for everyone and members of the public who donate blood will receive a two-week pass to the gym.

“You don’t have to be a doctor to save lives. Just donate blood. It’s safe, It’s simple and It saves lives,” said Managing Director of Fitness Zone, Wu Chun.

On March 19, they will be having a dance marathon in the multipurpose hall of its Kiulapbranch, from 5.15pm to 7.30pm, allowing for prayer breaks in between.

The dance line up will include Les Mills programs – Sh’bam and Bodyjam (the only club in Brunei currently to offer both dance classes from Les Mills) and also Zumba during that evening as well.

While the dance marathon is free for members, non members who are interested to participate in the healthy workout may purchase tickets at the Kiulap Branch at $8 only.

All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to a selected charity organisation of FZ’s choice, which will be announced on the night of the event.
