NORALI Ali Yusop became visually impaired when he was in his first year of sixth form. Against all odds and struggles, he overcame the challenge of being a person with disability by achieving good academic results and living a successful life. His story touched the hearts of many.

“Disabilities should be seen as a form of diversity, not deficits,” he said during a special talk at the Fitness Zone yesterday, highlighting that the person with disability does not mean that he or she is beneath everyone. He emphasised that society should adapt to people with disability, not vice versa, adding, “look at their ability and not disability”.

Norali, who is also a Ministry of Education officer, has been a Fitness Zone member since two years ago. Touched by his story, Wu Chun, the owner of Fitness Zone, recruited him as Fitness Zone’s latest brand ambassador of the “Pursue Greatness” campaign, offering him a lifetime membership.

Wu Chun said, “To me, Norali is much admired for his courage and passion to make a real difference to the society with his work. The fact that Norali has also been an active member of Fitness Zone for the past two years and is an accomplished marathon runner, making him the ideal spokesperson for the Fitness Zone.”

Some of the key learning points from the meeting included equal opportunities for people with disability and how to create an environment which is sensitive and inclusive for people with special needs.

“Pursue Greatness” is a marketing campaign headed by Fitness Zone to inspire the Bruneian public to lead a healthy lifestyle. Fitness Zone is also a supporting partner of the White Cane Charity Run organised by the National Association of the Blind on March 9.

Bandar Seri Begawan

Thursday, February 13, 2014

THE Serusop branch of Fitness Zone (FZ) yesterday celebrated its fourth anniversary with a zumba marathon.

Led by the fitness centre’s instructors, Edgar and Nas, a total of 60 zumba fans — members and non-members — moved to the groove of the beat.

Established in 2003, FZ has been providing a variety of group fitness exercise to its members and the community. It has two branches, one in Kiulap and the other in Serusop. Designed by local celebrity Wu Chun, who is also the Managing Director of FZ, they are unique in concept and ambiance yet still providing similar services and facilities.

Wu Chun said, “I love the fitness industry. I love that it’s still entrepreneurial. I love that the more successful we become, the better the health of the country. I love that as an industry we are still growing and maturing. And that’s what tomorrow is all about.”

“We are going to bankrupt our country by trying to medicate and hospitalise all of the people who have made poor choices about exercise, nutrition and wellness so I hope everyone should understand that it’s never too late to start a healthy lifestyle to enjoy a good quality of life! We took action in the health industry 10 years ago and we are still doing our best to change this culture one day at a time and will never give up!”

In conjunction with the anniversary of FZ Serusop and the festive season of Chinese New Year, the fitness centre is having a number of promotions for both non-members and existing members. To find out more, kindly proceed to any branch’s reception counter or call 2233338 to enquire on the latest promotion or the fitness centre’s group exercise schedule.
