THE Public Works Department (JKR), under the Ministry of Development, has nominated Fitness Zone as the official health partner for their Run Exercise and Cycle For Health (REACH) event. The event will be held at the old Airport Road on October 27, in conjunction with World Water Day, as a means to improve water conservation in the country by raising awareness.

The announcement was made during a press conference held yesterday at the Palm Cafe, Kiulap.

Prior to the actual date of the event, Fitness Zone will organise a health check and seminar for all the participants of JKR REACH 2013, that will take place on October 18 and 19, at the Fitness Zone Multi-purpose Hall in Kiulap.

Rachael Lee, the Fitness Manager of Fitness Zone, said that the participants will be encouraged to go through a health check that will examine and ensure their wellness and health by monitoring the percentage of body fat, muscle mass, blood pressure and other markers.

“The next day, the participants will receive an elaboration on their body analysis results and they will receive healthy nutritional tips from Fitness Zone’s very own certified nutritionist, Pearlie,” she continued.

Fitness Zone will also be conducting a warm-up session for the participants in the morning before the flag off. Participants of JKR REACH 2013 are also welcomed to visit Fitness Zone, as they are entitled to claim their three-day pass after the event.

Also present during the press conference was Athirah Yussof, the Public Relations Officer of JKR, who announced that to serve the purpose of the event, which is to conserve water, there will be no water receiving points during the run.

“We are trying to educate the public not to waste water but of course, we will be serving them water and isotonic drinks before and after the event,” she said.

She also stated that there will be a special appearance made by the Brunei Photographic Society who will be taking photos of the event and then uploading it to different social medias such as Facebook and Instagram.

“One of our local artiste and a four-time Hollywood Gold medallist, Fakhrul Razi will also be there to host the event which will entertain everyone,” she continued, “Let’s not forget that the participants of JKR REACH 2013 are also entitled to win great prizes.”

The charity event will involve a 2.5km fun run, a 5km competitive run and a 35km cycling route. Cash prizes and trophies for the 5km competitive run include $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place.

For the lucky draw prizes, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) has sponsored a return ticket to Jakarta and a return ticket to Kuala Lumpur, while Fitness Zone will be giving away a six-month membership and five participants will also get the chance to win a one-month membership (for two persons).

There are other prizes up for grabs such as an iPad Mini, a Samsung Galaxy Tab just to name a few.
