ABOUT 25 students, staff, carers and volunteers of Pusat Ehsan’s Pre-Vocational class visited Brunei’s number one fitness and health centre, Fitness Zone, in Kiulap yesterday for a fun-filled and educational trip.

The trip is part of the class’ topic called “Engaging Oneself in Physical Fitness”, and the centre believes that the students with special needs ought to be aware of the benefits of exercise and the incorporation of physical activity into their daily schedules.

The activity allows the students to make substantial gains in motor skills by providing them with learning experiences that are functionally relevant and can be used in their everyday lives.

Fitness Zone Fitness Manager, Rachel Lee, along with the trainers and instructors welcomed the visitors from Pusat Ehsan once they arrived at the facility.

Pusat Ehsan visitors were then brought around the three-storey fitness and health centre, starting with the first floor where they learned about the variety of fitness machines and its different purposes.

They were then brought to the third floor where a Fitness Zone instructor gave them a simple aerobics and dance class that got all the visitors from Pusat Ehsan involved and warmed up. This was followed by a Yoga session which helped stretch their warmed up bodies and gain flexibility.

The students also had the opportunity to engage in varied indoor physical games and they were also given the chance to try the facility’s equipment.

A qualified nutritionist from Fitness Zone also gave a talk on “Fitness and Nutrition” for Pusat Ehsan parents and carers present during the visit.

Before ending the visit, the group of Pre-Vocational students from Pusat Ehsan along with the staff, carers and volunteers as well as the students’ parents enjoyed healthy refreshments provided by Fitness Zone.

Pusat Ehsan continues to expose special needs students to a variety of learning experiences that can help them make sense of the world around them. With this exposure, the students will learn to adapt to new experiences that will help them explore and respond accordingly and be a part of the community.
