BHC to introduce special supplement magazine

HOME Improvement and Lifestyle Magazine, Butra Home Concept (BHC) is keen to produce publications that may help Brunei attract foreign investors and bring new new dynamic products into the country, said the publisher and editor of the magazine.

Shaun Hoon, in an interview with The Brunei Times on Thursday said that being a home and lifestyle magazine, it would not be appropriate for non-relevant topics to be featured in its existing publication hence the need to introduce special supplement that is dedicated to special interests beyond “just home ideas”.

“Our supplement editions are not aimed at luring general investors but may interest investors who are in a certain specialised market for example the designs and concepts of cafes and eateries,” he explained.

The editor said BHC is set to feature the beauty and ambience of the best local cafes and eateries in its next supplement issue, which is expected to be published in three months.

“Some investors or big companies might find our information to be useful and of help in their decision making,” said Hoon.

Asked if the magazine’s participation in local exhibition would boost its operation in terms of distributing value-added information for investors, he said: “if there are opportunities in attracting investors or bringing in more dynamic products to Brunei, we are happy to explore them.”

He shared that Butra HeidelbergCement, owner of BHC, has been actively supporting local exhibitions through its past publications.

BHC Magazine launched its first special edition supplement in mid-July which featured local superstar Wu Chun, who has been instrumental in the development of Brunei’s fitness industry.

“It (BHC special supplement) allows us to constantly provide contents to readers beyond just houses. In Brunei, we only have two magazines, BIG magazine which focuses on food and travel while BHC focuses on houses and lifestyle, so there is a lot of space in between that which has not been filled this is what we are trying to do with our special supplement.”

In an interview during the launching of the supplement, Hoon said other supplement topics that the magazine plans to cover include travel, hospitality, food and hobbies.

“What we do is that we find a special idea or subject every quarter of the year and then we welcome members from various industries in the Sultanate to talk about them in the supplements,” the editor was quoted as saying.

BHC magazine, launched in April last year, publishes 5,000 copies and is distributed in 100 distribution points across Brunei, a previous report stated.

It added that the magazines are distributed in various establishments in the home and housewares industry, such as furniture stores, property offices, hardware retailers, banks and on board Royal Brunei Airlines flights.
