SINCE the introduction of Bru-HIMS, less than 200,000 people have registered with the national Healthcare Information and Management System. Last Saturday during a press conference, it was revealed that a total of 172,135 people in the country have registered and from the total figure, only 78,754 registrations are from the Brunei-Muara District, the most populated district in the country.

With a majority of the population having yet to register, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Health on Wednesday had called on individuals who have yet to register to come forward to register for the convenience of seeking treatment not only in hospitals but also at healthcare centres nationwide.

The minister said on the sidelines of the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fitness Zone and the Ministry of Health, ?We are trying to encourage everyone to register for Bru-HIMS. Once registered, there is no need to register again. We would like to urge the public to register through various means.?

RIPAS Hospital has progressed into the final stage of the implementation of Bru-HIMS with the Outpatients Section of the hospital whereby starting from August 26 five specialist clinics will require patients who are in the Bru-HIMS system to register for doctor appointments to reduce waiting time.

Registration, the minister said, ?Can be done in three ways, which are by filling in the form at the registration counter of government hospitals with the Identity Card or copy of the Identity Card. Family members can also register on behalf of their loved ones.

?The Bru-HIMS forms can also be downloaded from the Ministry of Health website at http://www.moh.gov.bn and return the forms as well as provide a copy of Identity Card to the counters in the hospitals and healthcare centres. While another means of registration is through Bru-HIMS mobile application for android and apple users. Bru-HIMS can be found and downloaded in the Google Play store and Apple store.

?Once registered, the patients can visit any healthcare centres and hospitals nationwide and the medical record will be accessible through the database. The system is interlinked with all hospitals and healthcare centres which will serve as a convenience and will benefit for the patients as well as the ministry.?

The minister also vowed to resolve any problems that may arise as Bru-HIMS is a new system that would take some time to get adapted to.

PREVENTION is better than cure, and adopting a healthy lifestyle can reduce the rate of chronic diseases in the country. With a healthy population, the country will also be more productive

The benefits and importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle were highlighted by the Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Mohd Yusof yesterday following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Fitness Zone as they join forces to raise awareness on the need to maintain a healthy weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle through physical exercise.

During a press conference following the signing, the minister revealed the success of the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic programme (between the Healthy Lifestyle Programme of the Health Promotion Centre (HPC), Ministry of Health, and Fitness Zone) over the past four years.

The Healthy lifestyle Clinic programme, a weight loss programme, has achieved 90 per cent success rate among individuals who have lost weight and continue to live a healthy lifestyle. A total of 165 participants signed up for the programme last year.

“The 10 per cent failure rate is because some participants didn’t turn up according to schedule, but I am sure that if the participants actively follow the systematic schedule, the success rate would be 100 per cent,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fitness Zone Managing Director, Wu Chun explained, “We have been involved in the programme for four consecutive years. The participants have shown motivation as well as excitement with the programme, and one participant has lost 17 kilogrammes in three months.”

The schedule, the minister explained, “is organised by Fitness Zone in collaboration with HPC to achieve the objective of the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic programme. This systematic and comprehensive programme is in accordance to world standards. We hope the participants will continue to adapt to a healthy lifestyle and enjoy a healthy life.”

While the number of participants has steadily increased, Wu Chun hopes the number will continue to climb through the inspirational success stories of the pervious participants.

Through the inked MoU, Fitness Zone will provide corporate rate packages for Ministry of Health personnel to utilise the facilities at the gym, while Fitness Zone will carry out warm-up sessions for participants of the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic programme.

A suitable rate will also be prepared for participants following the Fitness Zone fitness programme.

Fitness Zone has been working with the Ministry of Health for the past three years, and a similar MoU was signed on April 16, 2011, offering a one rate corporate package to participants taking part in the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic programme.

The new MoU covers a larger scope of cooperation and offers three types of packages.

Speaking of the partnership between Fitness Zone and Ministry of Health, the minister explained, “This is an example of a successful private-public partnership.

“I am very happy that Fitness Zone has been very supportive of the Ministry of Health’s mission. This is a very good example of Social Corporate Responsibility for Brunei Darussalam to change the life of the people.”

Wu Chun pointed out that, “We are currently targeting children to start developing the habit of regular exercise and living a healthy lifestyle. We hope to visit schools to promote regular exercise.”

Following the signing, the minister joined others in the CxWorx by Les Mills international, a fun new exercise brought in from New Zealand.

BRUNEIAN superstar and Fitness Zone Managing Director Wu Chun, along with staff from the health club, brought smiles to two underprivileged individuals yesterday by bringing them donations of household items.

Having been referred to the individuals through word of mouth, the group first visited Kg Kapok to meet with Hamidah Abd Hamid, who lives with her daughter in a dilapidated house with a leaky roof. They presented Hamidah with basic household necessities such as rice, dry foods and canned goods, as well as a sofa.

Wu Chun also brought contractors along, to assess what damages can be fixed in the house, and stated his plans on returning in the next few days to change the roof and repaint the house.

Next, they visited 74-year-old Tunong Untong, who currently lives with her niece’s family in Kg Meragang. Tunong is an elderly spinster who lived alone until her niece took her in four years ago. She also received household necessities from the group.

Wu Chun explained that the acts of charity carried out yesterday was a very personal mission for him. “The reasons for my doing the charity today is because it is the 11th anniversary of my mother’s passing tomorrow,” said Chun.

“My mother gave her best to make sure we had a great home and that’s the reason why I want to help brighten up the homes of these underprivileged individuals, as well as to promote a habit of helping others.”

Chun mentioned that he was influenced to do charity work by his late mother from a young age. “She was an extremely good role model to me in many ways, especially in reaching out to others whenever we could.”

She fully embodied the statement, ‘actions speak louder than words’, throughout her lifetime.”

“As a result, I was raised with clear awareness that I should always be grateful for all things in life and to actively help others.”
