FITNESS Zone in Kiulap yesterday played host to a friendly basketball game between the KFC Fitness Zone “Hopes in the Hoop” team and the Chinese Embassy in Brunei.

Playing in the Chinese Embassy team were representatives from 12 different Chinese companies in Brunei.

With the growing number of Chinese nationals now working in Brunei, the Chinese Embassy organises internal basketball games, so as to strengthen the ties within the community.

Present to watch the game were officials from the Chinese Embassy, including Acting Ambassador Xin Wen Fang, Defense Attaché Shao Ying Cheng, and Chief of Economic & Commercial Office Jia Xin Wang.

“When we heard that the Chinese Embassy had formed a basketball team, we (Fitness Zone and KFC), as active promoters of basketball in Brunei, invited them to a friendly basketball game,” said Fitness Zone Managing Director Wu Chun.

“When the Filipino community came to Brunei to work, they also brought along their great basketball skills, which helped raise the level of basketball in Brunei.”

“With basketball being a popular sport in China, similarly, the Chinese community also have the potential to help raise the level of basketball in the future.”

The Hopes In The Hoop team also took the opportunity to invite the Chinese team to join the September season of the KFC Fitness Zone 3 On 3 Streetball challenge, which is now open for registration.

In China, KFC also organises 3 On 3 Basketball tournaments annually (in which Jeremy Lin was the ambassador last year), which is so big that it takes almost one year to finish,” shared Jonathan Bong of KFC. The Brunei Times
