FITNESS Zone held the closing of its Les Mills Relaunch Programme yesterday at its Kiulap branch, after a week of new exercise challenges that was aimed at improving the health club members’ movements and health.

Lily Ng, a cancer survivor, delivered a talk at the ceremony, sharing how she learned to eat healthily as a way to appreciate her body and keep it healthy. This was followed by a Body Jam class led by Fitness Zone trainers.

The ceremony also saw a showcase of how the funds from its many charity events were being used, such as donations to the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Pusat Ehsan.

Fitness Zone also took the opportunity to thank its clients and members who had given their support in those charity events over the past 10 years. The Les Mills Relaunch Programme was supported by Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Nestle Fitness and MonaVie.

A total of 24 teams are participating in the 3-on-3 Streetball Challenge under two categories: Under-18 Interschool Category and Under-21 Open Category. Palm Garden’s Wu Chun goes for a shot against the defence of Mochi-Each A Cup during their Mum Bakery Cup match last night.

Saturday, June 22, 2013

MOCHI-Each A Cup booked their berth in the semi-finals of the Mum Bakery Cup following their 68-58 win over Palm Garden yesterday.

Both teams struggled to get into rhythm from tip off, scoring just two points each after the first five minutes of play.

They only got the ball rolling in the final five minutes of the first stanza.

Palm Garden managed to open a 7-2 gap in the fifth minute, which Mochi quickly answered.

Palm Garden went on to finish the first quarter 12-10 at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

Mochi’s Esmond Tan Kar Horng came out with a bang in the second quarter.

Esmond was always ready to lead the offence for his team.

He shouldered the scoring load, successfully breaking down and scoring against Palm Garden’s defence.

Mochi levelled the scores at 15-15 three minutes in, which would be the last time the scores were tied.

Mochi would shift gears from that point. Going on a run to take the lead and widen the gap from Palm Garden.

Mochi’s fast movement and fluid passing confused Palm Garden and were able to dictate the tempo of the game.

Palm Garden eventually shot their way back into the game with their accurate three pointers but finished the half 30-26 down.

Po Yung Hui started the third quarter on a mission for Mochi.

Po scored five quick points in succession and assisted on two buckets in the first 90 seconds, giving Mochi a 11-point lead at 41-30 in the third minute.

Palm Garden took a while to find their shots but eventually converted their attempts in the last four minutes to make it a five-point game at 43-38.

Po was brought back into the game and restored their 10-point lead in the last two minutes, finishing the third stanza 50-40.

Palm Garden tried to fight their way back with three pointers in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to cause another upset win, such as that witnessed in their late 83-81 victory against Easyway on Wednesday.

Mochi will play Wisdom Jade in the semi-final on Tuesday at 8.45pm.

“I didn’t think Palm Garden would catch up because they were shooting three pointers and didn’t have people inside to rebound,” said Mochi coach Tony Tan.

“For the semi-final we will have a full team because we have another center coming in.

“The first time we played against Wisdom Jade, we didn’t play with a full team and this time we will have one so we will go into the game with all we got and do our best,” added the coach.

Easyway will go up against KFC-MK in the other semi-final on Tuesday at 7pm.
