AMBAPHIL are through to the final of the Open category of the KFC Fitness Zone 3-on-3 Streetball Challenge after defeating Davis Lighting 21-19 in the semi-final last night at the Airport Mall in Berakas.

Geve Leones was the go-to-man as he notched 12 points in the triumph.

Ambaphil had the height and size advantage with Elvin Requintin, Ernesto Espique and Roldan Binas completing the team as they kept attacking the painted area.

Davis Lighting kept themselves in the match and made it close with their three-point shooting with Ting Heng Lee hitting five treys. The team had a total of eight treys in the game.

Ambaphil will next face KFC Double Down, who beat Uni Decor Coating 21-14 in the other semi-final thanks Hj Md Rahmat Hj Suhaili who made 12 points.

Requintin feels that it can go either way despite having the favourites tag attached to them.

“We are not that confident because they are a very strong team. We need to play better defence and we must focus on keeping all of them at bay,” said Requintin, who together with Espique were part of the Wisdom Jade winning side for the final leg of last year.

Meanwhile, Spartans entered the Student category final after defeating Shark C in the semi-finals. They will face Shark B, who edged Shark A 22-21.

In the Ladies category group stage, Ivy Ballers A, who Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bulqiah laced up for, played in all three matches where they took a 1-2 win-loss record.

The group stage continues today at 10am with the Ivy Ballers A hoping to win their last two matches to reach the semi-finals. The finals will be from 8pm onwards.
