FITNESS Zone and FC Phosphor have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, seeing the popular health club team up with one of the up and coming local football clubs in Brunei.

According to a press release from Fitness Zone yesterday the collaboration is part of their bid to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst the community here in Brunei Darussalam.

FC Phosphor owner Tengku Syed Herdiman Tengku Syed Abdul Rahman said it was a great honour to be supported by Fitness Zone and that it provides a bright future for the team established in 2005.

According to a press statement released yesterday, Wu Chun, the founder of Fitness Zone, said the MoU will see Fitness Zone guide the youngsters of the club and ensure that they are fit to play the game. He added that the collaboration will, “at the same time develop the right healthy attitude towards their future undertakings.”

Wu Chun also highlighted that children experience a very different lifestyle in the present day.

“Walks to and from school have been replaced by car (rides). Gym and after-schools sports have been cut.”

He added that parents are also busier and families eat fewer home cooked meals and that children spend their afternoons with TV, video games and the internet instead.

“The good news is that by making just a few lifestyle changes we can help the younger generation lead healthier lives, and that’s why Fitness Zone is here in Brunei to encourage and motivate everyone in any possible way especially through the connection of doing sports activities.”

Tengku Syed Herdiman is also hoping that FC Phosphor can build on this milestone and achieve future success. “The club hope to see more youth in Brunei join this small community and (the club) hope to see it become large one day. We plan to organise a lot of activities for the youngsters in a way that they will be professional players on day,” said the FC Phosphor owner.

He added that the club is interested to build and promote a grassroots football clinic and promote football freestyle to the community.

The initiative comes as both the public and private sectors in the country are pushing for society as a whole to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Fitness Zone stressed that teenager obesity rates have been increasing, and that nearly one in three children are overweight and obese.
